Cutting stalks back opens the surface for a few weeks, but the roots stay anchored down in the sediment. We built this rolling drum with curved teeth to dig beneath the muck layer. You roll it from the dock or the bank across several passes, loosening what our cutters cannot touch.
Hooked steel teeth
The drum carries rows of galvanized steel teeth shaped to dig through bottom silt. As the roller turns, the hooks snag underground runners, dislodging root masses so they drift upward.
Stirring the bottom layer
Spongy sediment builds up over seasons into a thick bed. Rolling across that soft bottom churns the muck and exposes buried organic matter so it breaks down faster over time.
Working in steady passes
This is not a single afternoon fix. You push the aluminum handle out, roll back across the same strip, and return over several days to work down through stubborn patches.
What drifts loose
Tearing up root crowns leaves tangled debris floating near the shore. You will want a rake nearby to pull those floating clumps onto the bank before they drift into the neighbor weeds.
